I was given the task to design a book for the novel 'Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka. The basic plot is about a man who wakes up to realize that he has become an insect overnight. The whole story is then based on the character trying to figure out life in his new state.
This design reflects the plot's main idea. With each page turn the portrait of the man in the front cover is being transformed into the final image of the insect shown in the back cover. The design therefore draws a parallel with the story and evolves with it.
The text was set in a serif font and the colors used were black, white and red to give the final product a classic and serious tone.
For the title of the book, I scanned my own stressed out handwriting to emphasise the story's horrifying theme.
